Hailing from London, Oxford and Liverpool, Higher Music State (HMS) is not just a band; it's a sonic journey where the past converges with the present, creating a symphony of diverse influences.

Formed by sibling duo vocalists Andrea and Gerard Lewis, along with guitarist Alex Avery, the band embarked on their musical odyssey in 2009 under the moniker HMS, releasing their debut folk/rock album "The First."

Fast forward to the present, after pursuing a range of other musical collaborations, the trio has come back together and expanded its sonic horizons, welcoming Anna Jackson on bass guitar and vocals, and Calum Bradbury-Sparvell on drums, trumpet, and piano. Together, this quintet has ushered in a new era for the band, donning the name Higher Music State.

Their inaugural offering as this eclectic collective, "Overboard," is a rollercoaster ride of emotions, a heady, often angry concoction that mirrors the varied backgrounds of the members. Recorded at Evolution Studios in Oxford, "Overboard" isn’t just an album; it's a testament to the band's collective experiences. Drawing inspiration from their rich history in various bands spanning rock, indie, electro, acoustic and folk, Higher Music State has crafted a sound that defies easy categorisation. The resulting album is a captivating fusion, where each track tells a story, weaving together the threads of the band’s musical journey.

Higher Music State is not just a band; it's a celebration of musical evolution. With "Overboard," they invite you to join them on a sonic adventure, where boundaries are shattered, and the music soars to new heights.
